Not sure how to help after the Canterbury earthquake?
I live in Rangiora and our home was undamaged by the 7.1 quake of Sept 4. I’m sure there are others like me wondering what we can do for people whose homes have been damaged or who have lost jobs or businesses.
In the Waimakariri, our nearest neighbour Kaiapoi needs your help. The easiest way to do this is to donate some non-perishable food to the local foodbank, Kaiapoi Community Services in Williams Street (across the road from The Kaik tavern), or else drop your donations off at the Rangiora Service Centre in High Street, Rangiora.
There is also a Canterbury Earthquake Appeal being organised by NZ Red Cross (www.redcross.org.nz) or make an automatic $20 donation by phoning 0900 33 200.
The kids are off school today, (schools still shut); taking them with me to the foodbank shows that there are better ways to react to this quake than sitting at home nervously waiting for the next tremor!
Elle’s Pet Centre, 124 Williams St, Kaiapoi is also arranging a database for lost/found pets so please let them know if you’ve found a confused dog, cat or rabbit that may have strayed from home and maybe they can help find the owner. Their contact phone is 03 327 9924 or email ellespetcentre@clear.net.nz
NOTE: Please DO NOT take any lost pets to Elle’s Pet Centre - they are offering to act as coordinators, not a pet care agency.
