In The Press!
As a journalist with 20 years work experience in Canterbury, New Zealand, it is rare indeed never to have worked for The Press, Christchurch’s number one city newspaper. I’ve trodden a slightly strange path of my own, moving from community papers to Sunday papers with a bit of TV producing thrown in too … now freelancing for magazines.
So, I feel it is a cause for quiet celebration to have one of my articles on the front page of The Press website at the moment! This is via the freelance writing I do for Avenues magazine. I don’t know how long it’ll be there for but check it out at www.press.co.nz, (‘Do-re-mi’).
The article is all about a fun sort of night I had at Al’s Bar recently; it was an open mic night at which I dusted off my guitar and sang a few original songs. It was great. I really enjoyed myself and it was a pleasure to write about this cool city bar. If any tumblr readers out there are passing through Christchurch, then make a point of going there one night. Al has an open door policy when it comes to music, so all sorts of bands from indie to metal turn up there to play…occasionally dazed journos too!
