Rookies on the go - Waikuku Beach Surf Life Saving Club. I took this photo on a fairly cool Saturday morning in early summer, late 2010. The club’s rookies, aged 12 and 13 years, follow a pretty full-on training programme designed to prepare them for their surf life saving exam at 14. This is one of the photos that Latitude published with the feature that has made it through to the finals of the 2011 BP Surf Rescue Media Awards.
